About me
Greetings!
I hold a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, and have six years of choral, solo, and operatic performance experience, as well as several years of experience teaching voice, piano, guitar, and ukulele. I also have several years of choral conducting experience. I love the outdoors, knitting and sewing, reading, cooking, and random facts! I can't wait to get to know you.
Philosophy
It is my personal opinion that everyone can make music, regardless of skill or prior experience. I strive to meet my students where they're at and to build confidence alongside skill. Finding joy is the most important part of learning to play an instrument. I can't wait to work with you as you explore the wonderful world of music!
Teaching Style
I believe the student should be involved in all aspects of learning. This means I will work with them to choose repertoire they enjoy and will try to tailor the lessons to each student's personality and interests. I'm most experienced in Western Classical performance, but I am willing and happy to learn alongside my students.
“Where words fail, music speaks.” - Hans Christian Anderson
I was an unusual child. I had odd interests and struggled to fit in with my classmates. When I joined choir, I finally found something I could share with my peers. I started taking voice lessons and, slowly but surely, I learned to connect with the people around me through the love of music. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't use what I've learned through studying music, even though it may not always be through performance or teaching.
